'Loving, Not Being Loved'

"I knew now, that it is by loving, and not by being loved, that one can come nearest the soul of another; yea, that, where two love, it is the loving of each other, and not the being loved by each other, that originates and perfects and assures their blessedness.

"I knew that love gives to him that loveth, power over any soul beloved, even if that soul know him not, bringing him inwardly close to that spirit; a power that cannot be but for good; for in proportion as selfishness intrudes, the love ceases, and the power which springs therefrom dies. Yet all love will, one day, meet with its return. All true love will, one day, behold its own image in the eyes of the beloved, and be humbly glad."
—MacDonald, Phantastes

I feel like the past year has taught me this…or rather, taught me how far some people have already come with regard to it, and how far I still have to go. But it's those other people, those who know and teach this by example, that help me aspire to learn it myself.

Remember this post?

Insomuch as there is one to take
My hand despite my constant littleness
Of heart, and, by his, teach mine to expand—

There is love.

More my dream than ever. Happy Valentine's Day to all seekers of love; I'm learning, every day, that it is found with the giving of it. Thank you to those who patiently teach me this, by loving me.
